Privacy policy
GIA and this website are run by MARTAC LLC, doing business as Rear Observations. Questions or requests: open GIA and go to Settings → Contact the developer.
In short
- No adverts, no analytics, no tracking services. Your information is never sold or shared.
- What you keep in GIA is encrypted on your own computer.
- The server keeps only what accounts and subscriptions need, and never your searches, chats, notes, keys or internet address.
On your computer
Notes, team rooms, favourites, settings, presets, Gia conversations and lessons are encrypted (AES-256-GCM) with a key held in your computer's own key store (Windows Credential Manager, macOS Keychain or the Linux keyring). You can lock GIA with a passphrase, so the data cannot be opened without it; a forgotten passphrase cannot be recovered by anyone. A private session keeps nothing once GIA closes. API keys and your sign-in token are kept in the key store, never in GIA's files.
Team rooms are encrypted end to end with a key made from the room's passphrase: whoever relays them, including GIA's server, sees only scrambled text.
What GIA's server keeps
- With an account: your username, your password in hashed form, the favourites and settings you save, and a record of sign-ins and sign-outs (time, app version, and the country of your computer's time zone), used to run accounts and stop misuse. Accounts have no email address.
- Without an account: a random install number, the app version, time zone and country, so the developer knows how many copies are in use.
- GIA Pro, Team and Supporter: PayPal handles the payment. GIA keeps the subscription number and the email address PayPal reports, so a subscription can be restored. GIA never sees your card or bank details. For a team, GIA also keeps which accounts have a seat; teammates never see the payer's PayPal details.
- Discount codes: GIA keeps only a fingerprint of each code and how many uses it has left, not who it was given to.
- Messages to the developer: kept with the name and email you chose to give, if any.
The server keeps no IP addresses, searches, chats, notes or API keys.
Services GIA connects to
GIA's maps, news and data come straight from the organisations that publish them, such as weather services, conflict datasets, newsrooms and map providers. Like any website you visit, those services see your computer's internet address and handle it under their own privacy policies. If you add your own API key for a service, your use of it is between you and that service.
This website
This website sets no cookies, runs no scripts, and loads nothing from other companies: no analytics, fonts or trackers. Its hosting provider processes requests to deliver the pages and may keep short-lived security logs under its own policy.
Your choices
- Delete your account at any time in GIA under Settings → Account; your saved favourites and settings on the server go with it.
- Use GIA without an account, in a private session, or locked with a passphrase.
- To ask what is held about your account, or for it to be corrected or deleted, open GIA and go to Settings → Contact the developer.
Age
GIA is for adults: 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live. It is not meant for children.
Changes
If this policy changes in substance, the new version will be posted here with its date, and GIA will ask you to accept its updated terms.
