Rear Observations

Terms of use

Version 2026-10-07.3 · the same terms GIA shows when it first opens

GIA and this website are provided by MARTAC LLC, doing business as Rear Observations ("the developer" below). Questions: open GIA and go to Settings → Contact the developer.

1. Made by one person

GIA (Global Intelligence Analysis) is built and maintained by a single independent developer. It is new software and it will have bugs, gaps and rough edges. Please be patient while they are worked out.

If something looks wrong, breaks or misbehaves, please report it: Settings → Contact the developer. Reports make GIA better for everyone.

2. Minimal AI

GIA keeps AI to a minimum. Its facts come from the sources named and linked beside each item, not from AI. The only AI in GIA is a free, open-weights model that runs on a computer rather than a cloud AI service: on yours for Gia and the AI analyst, and on the developer's for the assessment in the shared daily brief. What it writes is labelled as such and kept apart from the facts.

3. Your privacy

I value your privacy, and GIA does not track you. There are no adverts, no analytics or tracking services, and your information is never sold or shared. GIA's server stores no IP addresses, searches, chats, notes or API keys; your keys stay in your own computer's key store.

On your computer, the personal things you keep in GIA (notes, team rooms, favourites, settings) are encrypted with a key held in your computer's own key store, and team rooms are encrypted end to end, so whoever relays them sees only scrambled text. You can also lock GIA with a passphrase, or use a private session that keeps nothing once it closes (Settings → Privacy). A passphrase you forget cannot be recovered.

What is kept, and only to run GIA: with an account, your username, your password in protected (hashed) form, your saved favourites and settings, and a record of sign-ins (time, app version and the country of your computer's time zone), used to run accounts and stop misuse. Copies used without an account report only a random install number, app version, time zone and country. With GIA Pro or Supporter, PayPal handles the payment; GIA keeps the subscription number and the email PayPal reports, so the subscription can be restored. A message you send the developer is kept with the name and email you chose to give, if any. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account.

GIA's maps, news and data come straight from the organisations that publish them. Like any website you visit, those services see your computer's internet address, under their own privacy policies.

4. Weigh your decision to use GIA carefully

GIA gathers information from many outside sources and from automated analysis. It is for general information only. It is not legal, financial, investment, security, military, medical, travel or other professional advice, and it does not replace official sources or qualified advice.

Information shown in GIA may be incomplete, out of date, delayed, mistranslated or wrong. Forecasts, scores and assessments are estimates, not facts. Check anything important against official sources before you act on it.

Do not rely on GIA where a mistake could cause injury, death, loss or damage, including personal safety, travel, navigation, emergency response or any decision about people or places.

5. Provided "as is"

To the fullest extent the law allows, GIA is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The developer does not promise that GIA will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that any information in it is correct.

6. No liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from or connected with GIA, its information or your use of it or inability to use it, whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive, including loss of data, profits, money, goodwill, property, injury or death, even if told such loss was possible, and whatever the legal theory (contract, tort including negligence, or otherwise).

Where the law does not allow liability to be excluded entirely, the developer's total liability is limited to the amount you paid for GIA in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars if you paid nothing. Some places do not allow some of these limits; in those places they apply as far as the law permits.

7. No misuse or abuse

The developer is not responsible for the misuse or abuse of GIA, and neither is tolerated. You may not use GIA to break any law; to harass, stalk, threaten, surveil or harm any person or group; to plan or support violence; to target people, places or property; to infringe others' rights; to break the terms of the services whose data GIA shows; or to interfere with, probe or overload GIA or its servers.

Accounts that misuse or abuse GIA may be suspended or closed at any time, without notice or refund, and serious misuse may be reported to the authorities.

8. Usernames and conduct

Offensive usernames are prohibited. That includes names that are hateful, harassing, obscene, sexually explicit, threatening, that impersonate someone else, or that promote violence or illegal activity. Such names may be changed or the account removed without notice. The same standard applies to anything you share with other users.

9. You are responsible for how you use GIA

You are solely responsible for your use of GIA, for the decisions you make with it, and for following the laws that apply to you. You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the developer from any claim, loss, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of GIA, your breach of these terms or your violation of any law or anyone else's rights.

10. Other people's information and services

Much of what GIA shows belongs to other organisations and is governed by their own terms; it is credited to them where it appears. GIA is independent: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or speaking for any government, agency, company or news outlet it shows. Links to outside sites are for convenience and are not endorsements.

11. Changes, and the rest

GIA and these terms may change. When the terms change in substance you will be asked to accept them again; using GIA afterwards means you accept the current terms. The developer may change, suspend or end any part of GIA at any time.

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the developer's state of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force, and the unenforceable part is applied as far as the law allows. These terms are the whole agreement between you and the developer about GIA; any GIA Pro subscription terms add to them.

Agreement

By clicking "I agree" in GIA, or by using it you confirm that you are an adult (18 or older, or the age of majority where you live), that you have read and understood these terms, and that you accept them. If you do not agree, do not use GIA.
